  1. I could see how overworked the nurses at RPA were when my mother was there in her final days. They were so over worked that couldn’t give her the attention she needed. There needs to be MORE nurses per ward.

Nurses deserve fair pay, respect and safe working conditions. The government will not retain nurses unless this improves!

In whatever sector you look, be it health, education or the private sector, if you do not value the people on the ground they will leave. Australia is a lucky country at the moment with very low unemployment. Why will people feel compelled to stay if they are not duly compensated for their efforts. It is not enough for governments to rely on these peoples good will and generosity any longer.

I work as a nurse in the private sector. Last year a man verbally & visciouly abused me. He raised his fists as he was screaming & almost assaulted me when I was nine months pregnant. He left me shaking in my nurses shoes when his surgery was re-scheduled (nothing to do with me), and I was left to break the news to him. I have been abused unecessarily many times as a nurse, but this latest incident really shook me! I have dedicated the last ten years of my life to help and look after the sick and injured. Yet I have received more abuse as a nurse than in any other profession I have worked in. When did it become okay to treat nurses so badly? I reported the incident, but nothing was said to me and the gentlemen was welcomed back for his surgery the very next day. Nurses have been treated so badly by the government and private employers for so long that I believe the the lack of respect has filtered down to the general public over time.

Nurses are overworked and desperately underpaid. They need and deserve a fair go. Nurses save lives too. Not just doctors. Treat Nurses the way they should be treated. Not like this.
