To all those staff working in Aged Care facilities High and low care .Just remember you do a wonderful job because you CARE!!!!!if you didnt care you would just walk away and go and work somewhere else.We give a damn thats the problem. Please support the NSWNA efforts to support us .Attend workshops that will let you know about how we can try and improve our Wages and conditions.I know we are all busy but this is the time we have to show a committment to our future. Our elderly deserve a fair go and so do we.

Hi, I work in an aged care facility as a PCA. I do all the things that KimK does as a nurse for $16.80 an hour. I look after 28 residents in low care (9 of those are actually high care) and since our new wing has opened up I have to run past reception into the other part of the facility to look after another 4 high dependant residents. I have a staff member help with the 8 showers before breakfast and the other 4 plus toileting after breakfast and feeds. I do the medications, wound care, ACFI, everything and in the afternoon m on my own from 12.30 till 1500..its killing me. I even have shin splints now and although I try to follow good manual handling skills my back is stopping me from sleeping at night..where does this insanity end? The turnover of staff is incredible and training new people in my section takes so much time from my work as well….I love my residents but Im weighing up if its worth killing myself for..who am I good to dead?

So many people speaking out & still nothing has changed. And it won’t. How much of the recent stimulus package was allocated to health? But I suppose we should be happy that all high school teachers will get a laptop. Maybe we need to headhunt some of the Teachers Federation employees to come over to the Nurses Association?
